On 8 December 1915 he attested into the Royal Flying Corps, later Royal Air Force. Height 5ft 7", chest 33inch, grey hair, green eyes, fresh complexion. He was transferred to reserves 11 March 1919 and discharged 30 April 1920. He later enlisted in Class B reserve for 4 years from 18 May 1939.On 6 September 1935 The London Gazette listed:
NOTICE is hereby given that the Partnership which has for some time past been carried on by Edward Owen Glanville and Gerald Glanville, under the style of B. E. GLANVILLE & SONS, at Bovey Tracey and Bridford, in the county of Devon, in the trade or business of Machinists and Agricultural Implement Engineers and Sellers and General Dealers of Fertilisers, Feeding Stuffs, Potatoes and Soft Goods, was, on the first day of August, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-five, dissolved by mutual consent, and that in future the said business, so far as concerns the department of Machinists and Agricultural Implement Engineers, will be carried on by the said Edward Owen Glanville, under the style of R. E. Glanville & Sons, and the said business, so far as concerns the department of General Dealers of Fertilisers, Feeding Stuffs, Potatoes and Soft Goods, will be carried on by the said Gerald Glanville in his own name.— As witness our hands this twenty-seventh day of August, one thousand nine hundred and thirtyfive.
