     On 1 September 1882 The London Gazette listed Civil Service Appointments (Ireland), Post Office, Clerks and Boy Clerks of the Lower Division, Samuel Hill Glanville to be Boy Clerk.
     On 1 October 1885 he attested into the Royal Artillery. Height 5ft 9", 135lbs, 35in chest, black/brown hair, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, church of england. He was discharged 15 Apr 1902 and the end of his period of engagement. He was granted a South African War gratuity. During his service he was transferred to the 2nd Batt Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
