     He re-enlisted 5 Oct 1914 into the Berkshire Regiment for 1 year, and applied for a transfer (1915) to the Devonshire Regiment, having served there being discharged as a Corporal 30 Jan 1908. He was transferred to the Machine Gun corps 8 March 1916, and joined the British Expediontary Force 7 Aug 1916.
