I Thomas Glanville
Formerly of Bridport in the County of Dorset late of Haselbury Plucknett in the County of Somerset but now residing in Exeter in the county of Devon being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding to this second day of ffebruary in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) I Give and bequeath unto Joshua Sparke of the City of Exeter Tin Plate worker and John Bishop of Bridport aforesaid Girt webb maker and to the survivor on Trust for the purposes and Intents hereinafter mentioned all and singular my mouity security for money Credits Goods Chattels Debts due and owing to me and personal estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresover and whereof I am pofsefsed of our entitled unto either in pofsefsion Reviersion or due and owing to me upon this Special Trust and confidence that the said Joshua Sparke and John Bishop or the survivor of them or the Executors or Administrators of the survivor of them Do and shall with all convenient speed after my Death get into their hands all the personal Estate and Effects I am entitled unto either in pofsefsion Reversion or Expectancy and to take and use such Remidees from Time to Time for the Recovery thereof and for the getting the same into their hands either by Action Bill or Bills in Equity or otherwise as they shall be advis’d and think proper and thereouf Upon Trust to pay and discharge my Debts and ffuneral Expenses and they to retain thereouf and pay themselves the Expences they have already been at and sustaind in taking Letter of Guardianship to me and using in the High Court of Chancery William Penziloe and John Penziloe the Executors of Abham Arkerman deceased to bring them to account and to pay to me or to my use the Mouity and Effects of the late Mr Abraham Arkerman deceased which I am entitled to and also such further Expenses and they may still be at in future prosecuting that suit and also to retain such further expenses as they may be still in amending their Bill or preferring a such Bill or Bills and carrying the same on against the said William Penziloe and John Benziloe of any other person of persons to compel an Amounts or amount and payment to my said Trustees of any of the said Abraham Arkerman’s Moiety and Effects and to retain out my Monies and Effects their Expenses and for their Trouble therein and thereabout and also to retain their Expenses in Proving my Will and in the Executorship thereof and after all the above payments made and retained I Give and bequeath the rest of my personal Estate in the manner following (that is to say) to Mary Courtis of Rorks-lane Exeter the sum of five pounds Sterling together with part of my Mothers apparel as hereinafter divested and to Catharine Glanville residing with Wm Upjohn watch Maker in the Church Yard Exeter the like sum of five pounds sterling with another part of my Mothers apparel as aforesaid And I likewise Give and bequeath unto my friend James Spurway Junr of Sert in the parish of Witherstone In the County Dorset my powder fflask pocket knife pen Knife Razor Razor strop and shaving box and to his Sister Elizabeth Spurway of the same place my Mothers Gold Watch with Hourses-skin Case and key and Seal belonging to it To Mary Spurway of the place aforesaid a Glafs shilling Bottle set in silver and enclosed in a Black Case my Juk stand and any Ring she may choose from my collection except my ffathers to my friend William Crouth of Witherstone ffarm aforesaid I bequeath my six keyed fflute with all my Music Books Manuscript and Print to Henry Sellwood of Sherborne Dorset Tin Plate worker the one of two pair of silver Buckles which are in my Closet drawers at Haselbury aforesaid as are also the above mentioned articles) request he will dispose of them and write their value purchase something which may be of more service to him and a more lasting Memorial of his friend to Josiah Sellwood (residing with His ffather Mr Abraham Sellwood Brazier Etc Bridport aforesaid) I Give the remaining pair of Buckles aforesaid for the aforementioned purpose together with Lord Chesterfields’s Advice to his son and any other Books he may select from my Collection except Taplins ffarriery to Abraham Sellwood Junr of Bridport aforesaid I Give my Gun and shot belt to my friend John Bishop I Give Taplins ffarriery with any other Books either in his Pofsefsion or at Hazelbury aforesaid worth acceptance except a prayer book of Mr Akermans and Lord Chestefield’s Advice to his son to Ann palmer late servant to my Mother now living with the Revd Joseph Terrett Longbudy in the Count of Dorset I give my Metal Watch which I now wear and my Charles Praner Book which she can collect from the rest Crewzief? To my friend Thomas Westlake of Martofe in the County of Somerset I Give my fathers Gold ring which may be selected from the rest by application to Ann palmer and I request my ffriend Joshua Sparke and John Bishop will apply to her for to know such things as they are not acquainted with the name off in order the Right person may have the Right thing she knowing every thing by the names which I have called it to my ffriends Ursula Sparke of Exeter and ann palmer aforesaid I Give the best part of my Mothers wearing apparel now in pofsefsion of John Bishop aforesaid to be divided between them share and share alike but if they should not like it I request they will select one Good Garment for Mrs Spurway of Sert aforesd and the rest to be divided between or disposed of for the benefit of Mary Courtis Rorks Lane Exeter and Catherine Glanville Church Yard Exeter aforesaid and I likewise Give unto Ursula Sparke one or more Rings as she may choose out my collection To my ffriend Joshua Sparke I Give my ffathers Gold Studs his gold Breast-buckle with the Emblem of ffremasonry in red stone his Bristol stone set in Silver stork and knee Buckles with a plain silver pair And gold seal and the whole set of Tillatson’s Sermmons and I do request the old silver watch in pofsefsion of Mr Abraham Sellwood Junr being a family one be returned back into the ffamily again I.E. to William Upjohn aforesaid Church yard Exeter and I make constitute and appoint the aforesaid Joshua Sparke and John Bishop Joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament In Trust for the purpose aforesaid no other to be my last Will and Testament In Widnefs whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year within written – Thomas Glanville

This Will was proved at London the fifth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine before the Right Honorable Keeper or Commifsary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbuy lawfully constituted by the Oaths of Joshua Sparke and John Bishop the Executors named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and Singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased they having been first Sworn by Commifsion duly to Administer
