Matthias Glanvill

In the Name of God Amen
I Matthias Glanvill of Robinson's Row Kingsland
Road in the parish of Saint Johns Hackney in
the County of Middlesex Gentleman being of sound
and perfect mind memory and understanding thanks
be given to Allmighty God for the same I make
and publish this my last will and testament in
a manner and form following that is to say ffirst
and principally I commend my Soul into the hands
of Allmighty God hoping for a joyful reserection
thro' the alon merits and mediation of my
Blefsed Saviour Jesus Christ | my body I commit to
the Earth to be Secretly interred in the Burying
Ground of Eton College in the Vault or Grave
which my brother Benjamin Glanvill now lies or
as such thereto as may be and in and about
the same manner as my said late brother was
interred | and as touching such worldly estate wherewith
it make pleased God to Blefs me in this life | after
payment of all my just debts and ffuneral
expenses | I give and dispose of the same as follows
Imprimis I give and bequeath unto mr James
Hill of Queen Street in the parish of Saint Botolph
without Aldgate in the County of Middlesex Baker the
sum of five hundred pounds East India three per cent
Annuities now standing out in my name in the East
India House (being part of the Annuities which by an
Act of Parliament pafsed in the twenty third year of
King George the Second the East India Company was
*** (**** to raise by sale of Annuities in manner
herein mentioned) In trust to pay the interest and
dividends thereof from time to time after my decease
as the same shall become due unto and into the
proper hands of Mrs Elizabeth Whitehall the wife
of WIlliam Waitr Whitehall of the parish of Saint
Botolph Aldgate Carpenter to be paid her from time
to time as the same becomes due for and during
the time of her natural life for her sole
and separate use exclusive of her present of any
future husband as not be to subject to either
her present of any future husband's debts control
or engagements and I so declare that her receipt alone
from time to time notwithstanding her coverture shall
be a good and sufficient dischared for the same and
from and immediately after her decease I give and
bequeath the said sum of five hundred pounds East
India Annuities unto such person or persons as shall
be my next of kin Item I give and bequeath unto
the said Elizabeth Whitehall the sum of twenty
pounds for mourning I give and bequeath unto
William Markam Glanvill the sum of forty pounds
Item I give and bequeath unto the said James Hill
the sum of ten pounds yearly and every year to be
paid him of of certain bank stock called the
Annuity of thirty years which stock was first Established
the 5th January 1778 in trust to pay the same from
time to time as the same becomes due to and fore
the proper use and behoof of ffrances Miller Sister
to this before named Mrs Elizabeth Whitehall untill
she arrives of Age and after her arrival at
Age then to her the said ffrances Miller for
and during all the time the said Annuities leave to
come provided she lives so long but it is should
happen that she should die before the expiration of
the said Annuities I give and bequeath the same
for this remainder that will then be to come and
*** after the decease of th said ffrances
Miller into such person or persons as shall be
my next of kin Item I likewise give and bequeath
unto the said ffrancis Miller the sum of twenty
pounds for Mourning Item I give and bequeath
unto Mr James Hill the sum of thirty pounds and
as to all the rest residue and remainder of my
monies cash in the ffunds goods chattels estate
and effects whatsoever and wheresoever of what
nature or kind soever whther real or personal
which at the time of my decease shall be any
ways pofsefsed of interested in or intitled to either
in pofsefsion conversion expectancy and remainder I
give devise and bequeath the same and every
part thereof unto my sister ffrances Walker her
heirs and afsigns for ever and I do hereby
make nominate and appoint my said sister
ffrances Walker sole executrix of this my last
will and testament and last I do hereby
revoke annull and make void all former and
other Will and Wills by me at any time
hertofor made and I do hereby publish and
declare this to be my last will and testament
In witnefs whereof to this my last will and
testament and to a duplicate thereof contained
in two sheets of paper each to the first of
each sheet of paper I have set my hands and
the second and last of each sheet of paper
I have set my hand and seal this third day
of July in the nineteenth year of the reign of
our Soverign Lord George the King by the
Grace of God of Great Britain ffrance and
Ireland King Defender of the faith and so
forth and in the year of our Lord one
thousand seven hundred and seventy nine Matth:
Glanvill LJ Signed sealed published and declared
by the testator the said Matthias Glanvill as
and for his last Will and Testament in the
presence of us who at his desire attested the
same in his presence and in the presence of
each other Frances Betty Ravenscroft, Sarah
Keighfeld, Saml Ravenscroft No. 1A Nero (?) Square
Mairws (?)

This will was proved at London
this fourteenth day of June in the year of
or Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty
five before the worshipful William Markam
Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful
Peter Catent also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper
or Commifsary of the prerogative Court of Canterbury
lawfully constitued by the Oath of ffrances
Walker widow the Sister of the deceased and
sole executrix named in the said will to whom
Administration was granted of all and singular
the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased
she having been first sworn duly to administer.
