Tavistock - An inquest was held on Tuesday at Upaton, before A. B. Bone, Esq. coroner on Thomas Glanville, aged 18 years. He met with his death while ploughing a field alone, where he was driving the horses, and hold the plough at the same time. Some miners, a few years since, left a shoad pit open, and the horses being near it, by some means fell it. Granville, no doubt, endeavoured to get the horses out. There was a mark of a blow on his forehead, perhaps given him by one of the horses, which may have stunned him. He was found lying under one of the horses in the pit quite dead, and must have remained in that position two hours. His absence was not observed until the family expected him to dinner, when a girl was sent to call him, and found him in the situation described. She gave alarm, and the body was soon removed. The horses were taken out unhurt.

Shoalhaven Telegraph 16 April 1902:
The death of Mr Daniel Glanville at Berara, on Monday last, at the patriarchal age of 83 years, closes down the last page of a long and eventful history. Born at Cornwall, England, in 1819 deceased came of a stock which was inured to hard knocks and not easily daunted by adverse circumstances, otherwise he must have succumbed beneath the constant succession of troubles which befell him in the early days of this State. He arrived in New South Wales in 1837, and remained here without a break until the day of his death. His first settlement was at Wogamia, on the Shoahaven River, where he engaged in farming pursuits with his brother Richard, who, being possessed of capital, had received from the Government the usual grant of land, with an assignment of convict servants-— for those were not the days of the minimum wage, and labor was scarce in the land. He took a clearing lease from his brother at Burrawang, with every promise of success, but in 1860 the great flood of that year devastated the Shoalhaven district, covering his cultivated land so deep in water that it was possible to sail a ship over the ploughed lands. This was but the beginning of evils, and yet it did not daunt his spirit or his ardor. 'Try again' was evidently his motto, for we find him starting afresh with renewed diligence ; and gradually, by consistent toil, accumulating property and adding to his household comforts, until after a lapse of ten years he was able to hold his head with the best. He had now a fair prospect of being a successful man, when again the floods came and swept all away— every head of stock, every stack of corn going down in the general ruin, leaving him in one hour as reft of his earthly substance as the patriarch Job. But here the dogged determination of his Cornish blood asserted itself, and he actually went back again to Wogamia, and commenced afresh, only to be ultimately beaten by his persistent foes, the floods. He subsequently purchased the property at Berara. He has left behind him a family roll of 53 descendants— 12 children, 34 grandchildren, and 7 great-grand-children --the majority of whom are settled in various parts of the State. The funeral took place on Wednesday, at 2 p.m., at Berara, and was very largely attended, settlers from all parts of the surrounding district having ridden in to express their sympathy with the family, and show their respect for the memory of one who had always shown himself to be a kind and considerate neighbor. The Rev. J. Hornb-Spear (Milton), performed the service, and delivered an impressive address at the grave.
