Ester Mae Sauter

Female, #19621, born 15 March 1927, died 25 February 2014

Birth, Marriage and Death information

Ester Mae Sauter was born on 15 March 1927 in Tuttle, ND, USA.
She married Harold Clair Glanville, son of Albert Glanville and Clara Mae Wilkinson, on 8 June 1947 in ND, USA, (when age calculated as 20.)
She married Pat McFerran on 1 February 1985 in the USA (when age calculated as 57.)
She died on 25 February 2014 in Phoenix, AZ, USA, (when age calculated as 86); with obituary:
Mae Glanville McFerran, 86, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Bismarck and Wing, N.D., passed away on Feb. 25, 2014.
Mae was born March 15, 1927, in Tuttle, N.D., the youngest of 10 children of Eberhardt and Mathilda Sauter. Mae graduated from Tuttle High School in 1945. Shortly after graduation she moved to Wing to work at Lein's Mercantile.
Mae married Harold Glanville of Wing on June 8, 1947. They farmed north of Wing and were among the last farmers in North Dakota to "thresh" their wheat crop in the mid 1960s. After Harold's sudden death in 1974, Mae moved to Bismarck where she worked for Lutheran Social Services and Cashman Nursery. Mae married Pat McFerran on Feb. 1, 1985. Pat died in 1995. She moved to Arizona to be near her daughter, Susie, and family in December 2010.
Mae was an avid member of the Wing Legion Auxiliary, Wing Homemakers' Club, Wing Congregational Church and Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bismarck. Mae and Harold actively supported school and community activities in Wing. Mae loved to play cards, dance, bake wedding cakes, play dominoes, visit, crochet and play solitaire on her computer. She was known to nearly always have a big chocolate cake in the cupboard of her farm home. Her quick wit and love of a good joke were among her trademarks.
Mae was always an inspiration to her many nieces and nephews. Nephew Vern Sauter summarized this so well: "Aunt Mae was a role model for all of us. She faced more adversity in her life than any one person should have to bear, but I don't think I was ever in her presence when she was not enjoying that moment and being broadly affirming of all present. She seemed to have such a desire to make the most of every minute. That may be what comes out of adversity. What a wonderful role model. As cousins, we have been blessed with such a strong heritage being passed down to us. What comes to mind is the value of education in our lives along with hard work. I remember times seeing my mom and dad and aunts and uncles reaching out to others in the community who were in need. We were taught the value of grounding ourselves in a strong church community and in participating in our local and global communities. And, probably most importantly, we were encouraged to enjoy every moment of life. Aunt Mae stood at the front of this example. What a blessing."
Mae is survived by her daughter, Susan Mae Kahler, Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren Marc (Jodi) Glanville, West Fargo, N.D., Chris (Nikki) Wold, Marietta, Ga., Larissa (Ryan) Laber, Eau Claire, Wis., Matt (Melody) Glanville, Bismarck, N.D., Nick (Angie) Kahler, Gilbert, Ariz., and Lindsey Mae (Shane) Carrillo, Kansas City, Kan.; great grandchildren Michael and Gracie Mae Glanville, Tyler and Camryn Mary Wold, Zachary and Noah Laber, Austin, Ethan and Ella Glanville, and Emily Mae and Ethan Kahler. Mae is also survived by son-in-law Clark Wold and daughter-in-law Monica Glanville; sisters-in-law Ann Glanville and Ada McFerran; brothers-in-law David and BC (Mick) McFerran, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Harold Glanville, son Mike Glanville and daughter Mary Wold, her husband, Pat McFerran, brothers Walter, Fred and Eddie Sauter, and sisters Hilda Hinkel, Viola Bailey, Erna Riskedahl, Ruby Sauter, Louise Sauter and Lynora Scherbenske.
A Celebration of Life officiated by Pastor Trisha DeBoer is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on June 2, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wing, followed by burial at the Wing Cemetery. Memorials will be distributed among Wing civic organizations and can be sent to Susan Kahler, 4747 E. Elliot Rd, #29605, Phoenix, AZ, 85044.
