Concord, NH-Eleanor L. Glanville, 101, of Pleasant Street, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004 at Presidential Oaks where she had resided. She was born in Hyde Park, MA on August 11, 1902 the daughter of Charles and Susan (Rowell) Glanville. She graduated from Hopkinton High School. She moved to Contoocook in 1905 and took over her father's leather business, Monarch Razor Strope Co. in 1929 until she sold to Page Belting Co. of Concord, NH in 1936. She was head of Quality Control for Page Belting Co. from 1936-1987. Miss Glanville had resided in Concord from 1957-1987 and had lived at Presidential Oaks since 1990. She was a member of the Contoocook American Legion Auxiliary Post #81. Her nephew, Manley A. Glanville of Warner, died just hours before her on Jan. 10, 2004. Members of her family surviving include a nephew, Paul D. Glanville of Monticello, GA; grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces, and great grandnephews. There will be no calling hours. Manley A. Glanville Jr.
Warner, NH-Manley A. Glanville, Jr., 78, of Kirtland Street, died Sat., Jan. 10, 2004 at the Concord Hospital. He was born in Concord, NH on Dec. 23, 1925 the son of Manley A. and Helen (Devine) Glanville. He graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1943 and then entered the US Air Force during WWII training as a radio/gunner on B17's. Mr. Glanville attended New England College in 1946 and graduated from Concord Commercial College in 1951. In 1949 he purchased Pleasant Lake Casino in Warner with two partners. They were able to provide swimming, bowling, roller skating, square dancing, and bands. Later he bought the business and worked parttime with a local plumbing contractor. He also worked as a "Carnie" running concessions for many of the fairs. In 1961 he expanded to a mobile home park and campground. Mr. Glanville opened an Arctic Cat Snowmobile dealership and became interested in snowmobile racing. In the mid 1980's he sold the Pleasant Lake Business and retired.
Mr. Glanville attended St. Mary's Church in Contoocook. He was a member of the Warner Men's Club and received the Community Service Award in 1997. He was a charter member of the Sno-Mads Snowmobile Club of Contoocook and the Kearsarge Trailsnails of Warner. He coached Warner's Little League and Babe Ruth and was a drummer in many of the local bands and parades. Mr. Glanville was a member of the First Warner Planning Board for over 10 years and served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment and represented Warner on the Waste to Energy Plant Project as part of the Concord Regional Solid Waste Management District formation. He was a member of the Wilkins-Cloues-Bigelow Post #39 American Legion of Warner, the Warner Fish and Game, Warner Business and Professional Association, the Fall Foliage Festival Committee and the Warner Historical Society. Mr. Glanville enjoyed the Hopkinton Fair and was a former Director and had been "Official Fair Historian." He liked to hunt. He really valued his friendships and acquaintances and loved to chat.
His aunt, Eleanor Glanville, died just hours after him on Jan. 11, 2004. Members of his family surviving include his wife of 18 years, Ann (Sweet) Hanson Glanville of Warner, NH; a son, Glen Glanville of Contoocook, NH; three grandchildren, Timothy, Nathan, and Bethany; a brother, Paul Glanville of Monticello, GA; three stepdaughters, Marianne Howlett of Warner, NH, Susan Henley of Warner, NH, Martha McCrea of Hickory, NC; two stepsons, Alfred Hanson and Steve Hanson both of Warner, NH; several stepgrandchildren; and two nephews.
Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, NH on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 from 7-9 P.M. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church in Contoocook with The Rev. Mark Dollard, pastor, celebrant.
